The message of the developing world – grappling with poverty, growing population, increasing urbanization and industrialization – is clear. Supply of freshwater will be a critical issue in the years to come. Information, assessment and monitoring of water resources will be crucial.
In this regard, the Regional Expert Group Meeting on Preparation of Training Manual for Training of Trainers (ToT) on Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) was held at the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM), Tehran, Iran, from 11 to 13 December 2004. The meeting was organized by the RCUWM, UNESCO Regional Cluster Office in Tehran, and New Delhi Regional office.
The Regional Expert Group Meeting (EGM) was attended by regional and international experts in the field of urban water management representing five countries (Iran, India, Lebanon, Nepal, and Sri Lanka), UNECSO Office in New Delhi, and UNESCO Headquarters, Paris.
The Meeting was held to discuss about the initiative on preparation of common training of trainers manual for integrated urban water management in Asian cities and to identify the problems facing Asian Regions in urban water management. The main objective of the Meeting was to develop a strategy toward preparation of ToT manual.
The outcome of this Expert Group Meeting was to develop and adopt a draft strategy paper on the preparation of a Training Manual for Training of Trainers on Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) in Asia which was then disseminated among the focal persons to be reviewed and finalized.
