TEHRAN, September 16, 2026 – The Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM), under the auspices of UNESCO, successfully convened a high-level regional workshop titled “Teleconnection, Forecasting, and Early Warning Systems” today in Tehran.

The event was organized in strategic cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and in close collaboration with the Iran Meteorological Organization (IRIMO) and Ministry of Energy (MOE), Iran.

Hosted at the premises of the Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company (IWPCO) under the MOE, the workshop addressed critical climate concerns. Given the projected likelihood of El Niño phenomena impacting the upcoming wet season, the workshop provided a vital platform for exchanging international expertise on managing water resource variability and developing robust adaptation strategies. A key focus was placed on the implementation and integration of Early Warning Systems (EWSs) at both national and regional scales.

The hybrid workshop drew over 600 participants globally. The technical program featured three specialized sessions led by three international experts from the WMO and HKV (Netherlands), alongside 11 prominent Iranian specialists from key agencies, including the Ministry of Energy and IRIMO. The event also saw virtual participation from RCUWM Governing Board member states, including Egypt, Iraq, Pakistan, and Turkey, underscoring the regional significance of the discussions.
