Non-Revenue Water (NRW)

Description: In the Islamic Republic of Iran, the National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company (NWWEC) controls the administration of the water supply. As a measure to mitigate water shortages, it encourages the reduction of non-revenue water (NRW) using its own technologies. However, due to the deterioration of aging facilities, the average percentage of NRW is still in excess of 25%.

The Technical Session on Urban River Restoration was held by the Regional Centre on urban Water Management as a side event to the 15th National Hydraulic Conference as the largest gathering of the hydraulic-related activities. The top managers from Tehran Municipality, Iran Water Resources Management Company, Iran National Water and Wastewater Company and Tehran University presented their speech and experiences in this session which was highly received by the participants.

The six-day forum organized by the World Water Council and Korean national committee was the largest ever with about 41,000 people from 168 countries and 400 seminars, discussion sessions and exhibitions in Daegu and Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang.

The regional workshop and roundtable discussion on “Exploring Different Approaches aimed at Overcoming Environmental Sustainability Challenges” was co-chaired by the Islamic Republic of Iran Ministry of Energy (in coordination with the Department of Environment and with the support of UNESCO Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) – Tehran) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The event was held in Tehran at the Ministry of Energy`s Office on November 22 and 25, 2015 with a case study based field trip to Isfahan carried out in between these dates on November 23 and 24.
